Hello everyone,

A few weeks ago I decided to participate to WTC 2022 in Poland. But to get there, I have to qualify in one of the two teams my country can send to the event (Belgium).

This Sunday, the second qualifying tournament took place. I decided to go there with a Lylyth4 and Vayl1 pairing. It’s a four round tournament with 13 players.

Tbh, my battle reports are not very detailed, sorry, but I need 110% of my brain to play this game. I should find a solution to take pictures, maybe install a Go Pro next to the table? If any of you have a solution, I’m interested 🙂

Here is my pairing. My idea is to test Lylyth4 as much as possible. I play her in Ravens, because I think that’s the theme that has the most synergies for her. The debate is open.

Game 1: Lylyth4 vs. Garryth2

Garryth 2

[Theme] Defenders of Ios

!!! Elara, Tyro of the Third Chamber must have a battlegroup.

[Garryth 2] Garryth, Eye of Vengeance [+29]
– Harpy [9]
– Harpy [9]
– Moros [11]
– Phoenix [15]
– Sylys Wyshnalyrr, the Seeker [0(4)]
Arcanist Mechanik [2]
Arcanist Mechanik [2]
Elara, Tyro of the Third Chamber [4]
Ghost Sniper [0(3)]
Ghost Sniper [0(3)]
Hermit of Henge Hold [0(5)]
Lys Healer [2]
Scythe [6]
Heavy Rifle Team [3]
Heavy Rifle Team [3]
Arcantrik Force Generator [17]
Dawnguard Trident [16]

This is typically the style of lists my Lylyth4 list is made for. He has G2 and Vyros2 in his pairing, he drops Garryth unsurprisingly. I lose the toss despite the reroll. He chooses to play second, which surprises me a lot. He then explains me that he made this choice to have access to a well-positioned trench near the middle of the table.

I decide to put pressure on him directly and run with almost everything.

He is scared and advances little, he uses the trench to keep his Phoenix, Sylys, a sniper and Garryth protected. He doesn’t feat and shoots some unimportant stuff.

On my turn 2, I feat and i takes his Phoenix out thanks to 1) a harrier which gives me Mark target, 2) broadside spell and 3) the rerolls of my feat. I do some damage and move outside of most threat ranges.

In respond, he feat. He kills me some models (teraph) by committing Moros and a harpy. But he fails to kill my hellmouth because his trident only rolls 3 shots in total. I score on my flag and he score his flag.

The attrition will continue, but because i occupy the centrum of the table, he will never be able to contest my flag while i can easily jam his flag. On turn 4, I clear the zone by committing my entire army and score two points which allow me to move to 6 – 1.

Lylyth 4  vs Kromac 2

Kromac 2

[Theme] The Wild Hunt

[Kromac 2] Kromac, Champion of the Wurm [+28]
– Feral Warpwolf [14]
– Ghetorix [17]
– Warpwolf Stalker [15]
Blackclad Wayfarer [3]
Bog Trog Mist Speaker [3]
Krueger the Stormseer [0(5)]
– Wild Argus [6]
Lord of the Feast [0(5)]
Shivers [0(4)]
Una the Falconer [3]
– Storm Raptor [34]
Boil Master & Spirit Cauldron [5]
Shifting Stones [3]

I win the roll and I decide to play second. My plan is to cancel the scenario completely by placing my two hellmouths (high on the table because i’m second player) in areas where he can never pick them up and force him to advance several turns under my fire .

In a nutshell, it’s not a good game plan.

I quickly realize this, t1, when his entire army is running around the middle of the table, protecting his important models with Krueger’s clouds. I’ll feat and try to kill his feral during my T1 by putting my two ravagor shots, the teraph shot and the shots of Lylyth + shoot again thanks to broadside (+mark target). I feat to make the rolls more reliable but it does not work at all. The feral is alive and I only kill Shivers and do some damage to the stalker. After that, I realize that central obstruction will be a big problem. So I decide to move forward aggressively with my blight archon behind the house, so it will never be a safe place for Kromac with my impe, ding doom shenanigans.

Big mistake, he kills my blight archon, leaving three beasts (naga, mekkano and harrier) without a controller. He feat and continues advancing aggressively. Despite the feat, I manage to kill the feral quickly and put Mortality on Getho hoping to break an aspect. But the dice won’t work (or were my calculation wrong?) and at the end of my turn, Getho is still fully functional. Ouch.

Then he kills me a ravagor, all my croak riders, and lots of other stuff. But I still lead to the scenario (2-1). The next turn, I have to play risky and I advance Lylyth4 who will kill Una1. I finally kill Getho and jam with everything I have so he doesn’t murder me. He has a few minutes left on his clock and decide to go for an assassination. He charges L4 with his wild argus with lightining blades which puts on his animus. Charge attack makes me spend my only fury. He then activates Kromac with the idea of casting primal chocks from his storm raptor, but as he casts his spell, his clock goes off. We continue to roll the dices depsite the clock and after a second primal chock and the spectral leach of the cauldron, he kills me.

Wow, that was close. I really believe this match is ok for Lylyth if I had played it better.

Heretic vs Lylyth4

[Theme] Dark Menagerie

[Heretic 1] The Heretic [+28]
– Cage Rager [13]
– Crabbit [0(3)]
– Crabbit [0(3)]
– Gorehound [6]
– Skin & Moans [14]
– Slaughterhouse [32]
Defiled Archon [8]
Gremlin Swarm [0(3)]
Gremlin Swarm [0(3)]
Gremlin Swarm [0(3)]
Gremlin Swarm [0(3)]
Isaiah, Dread Harvester [8]
Lady Karianna Rose [3]
Dread Rots (min) [7]
Death Knell [11]

Hey, guess what? I’m in the semi-finals.

We all have factions that we don’t play much against. In my case, it is Grymkins. My opponent plays a pairing with Dreamer and Heretic. I think first of all to choose Vayl1 but with all the shenaningans (gallow, the house pull, abyssal gate,…) it seemed dangerous to me. So I choose Lylyth, telling myself that Mortality is a good tool in the game. He chooses Heretic with the house.

He wins the roll and decides to play second, choosing the side that offers him the most protection.
In summary, I have a choice to make. Either I throw Mortality the whole game to exhaust the bodies and aacane vortex on his rager cage (+arcana). But that means I don’t do anything else with Lylyth and the vast majority of Mortalities will fail. Either I play it by boosting my shooting damage and playing broadside or the run and gun aspect. I choose the second. I still don’t know if this is the right solution.

Game Summary: There’s too much armor for my list. I shoot his list for two rounds with all the possible bonuses (and good rolls) and I only manage to drop a heavy and his other minor pieces. But when the slaughterhouse enters the central area, it’s game over because I can’t handle it with my heavy hitter being dice -5 if (and it’s a big if) i can cast mortality. My opponent played a clean game and i never saw an opportunity to do anything relevant.

I’m thinking of playing Kryssa in the future to cover this match up. My only concern is that I don’t have a source of grevious wound in my Kryssa list. I wonder how much that penalizes me in the grymkins match up.

Lylyth 4 vs Haley 2

Last game was (sadly) super quick. He plays Haley 2 and I Lylyth 4. I manage to kill Thunderhead T1 thanks to Mortality. I place Lylyth in a trench with Deflection (def 21) and a fury. He finds a assassination angle and easily kills me.

At least I have time to have a beer and watch the others finish their game. Disappointed, inevitably, to go from the semi-final to seventh place. There is still plenty of room for improvement.

I will probably direct my pairing towards Lylyth 4 and Kryssa. Given the general level of my opponents, I’m not confident enough to choose Vayl1. If at least she could step back after her feat….
